With accelerated mixes used in underground support, shotcrete can achieve early strengths sufficient for re-entry within hours. Conventional mixes follow normal concrete strength development, reaching their specified characteristic strength at 28 days. Early-age strength requirements, where specified, are verified by penetration needle or pull-out testing.
